Thailand has long been the number one choice for Indian destination weddings—and for good reason. It offers the perfect blend of luxury hospitality, stunning beaches, and a deep understanding of Indian traditions (from Sangeet setups to Jain menus).
If you are exploring Thailand for your 2027 wedding, we know you have questions about budgets, the best months to visit, and which island suits your vibe. Based on a recent client enquiry, we have compiled this comprehensive guide to help you plan your dream Thai celebration.
1. Top Destinations for Indian Weddings
Thailand is diverse, and choosing the right location depends on your guest profile and the "vibe" you want.
Hua Hin: The Top Choice. Located a 3-hour drive from Bangkok (no internal flights needed), it is famous for large resorts with grand ballrooms and private beaches. It is the hub for Indian weddings because logistics are easier and costs are often lower than the islands.
Phuket: Luxury & Views. Perfect if you want dramatic cliff-side vows or a high-end resort experience. It requires a flight from Bangkok (or direct international flights), so travel costs for guests are higher.
Pattaya: Fun & Accessible. Just 2 hours from Bangkok, Pattaya offers vibrant nightlife and excellent resorts. It’s great for couples who want a "party" vibe for their Youngsters' night or Bachelor party.
Chiang Mai: Cultural & Green. For a unique "Royal Lanna" style wedding amidst mountains and misty rice fields. Ideal for couples who want something different from the typical beach wedding.
Bangkok: City Grandeur. Perfect for riverside luxury hotels. Best for short, 2-day weddings where ease of travel is the priority.
2. Pricing & Packages: The Indian Wedding Context
Indian weddings typically involve multiple events (Welcome Lunch, Sangeet, Wedding, Reception), which makes the pricing structure different from Western weddings.
Cost Per Head: For a 5-star resort, expect F&B costs to range from $55 – $85 USD per guest per meal (including soft drinks).
Package Estimates (100 Guests): For a standard 2-Night / 3-Day Indian wedding (4-5 meals + events), a realistic budget is $70,000 – $100,000 USD. This typically covers:
Venue rentals for Mehendi, Sangeet, and Wedding.
Accommodations for the couple and close family (approx 10 rooms).
Buffet catering (Indian/Thai mix).
Standard decor and logistics.
Minimum Spend: Resorts in Hua Hin or Phuket often require a "buyout" of a certain number of rooms (e.g., minimum 50 rooms booked) to give you exclusive use of the party venues late into the night.
3. Seasonal Pricing: When to Go
Thailand’s weather patterns vary by coast, so picking the right date is crucial to avoid rain during your outdoor Pheras.
Peak Season (Cool & Dry): November to February.
This is the most popular time for Indian weddings. The weather is pleasant (not too humid) for outdoor Sangeets.
Note: Prices are at their highest, and venues book out 12–18 months in advance.
Shoulder Season (Hotter): March to May.
It gets hot, but if you plan indoor afternoon events and outdoor sunset evening events, you can get great deals (15–20% lower rates).
Monsoon/Off-Peak: June to October.
West Coast (Phuket/Krabi): Rainy.
East Coast (Koh Samui): Actually has decent weather during these months! If you must marry in July/August, choose Koh Samui or Hua Hin (which has lower rainfall).
4. What’s Included vs. What’s Extra
Thailand hotels are very experienced with Indian weddings, but you need to watch out for specific "hidden" costs.
Typically Included:
Venue: Use of ballrooms and lawns (often waived if you meet a minimum F&B spend).
Tables & Chairs: Standard hotel banquet furniture.
Basic Sound: PA system for speeches (but not for the DJ/Sangeet).
Typically NOT Included (The "Indian Wedding" Extras):
Indian Catering: While many chefs in Thailand can cook Indian food, most families prefer flying in a specialty Indian caterer or a specific "Maharaj". Hotels often charge a "kitchen usage fee" or corkage for outside food.
Alcohol: High taxes on imported alcohol mean corkage fees can be steep. Negotiate this early!
The "Baraat" Procession: If you want an elephant, horse, or a vintage car for the groom's entry, this is an external rental.
Entertainment: DJ, Dhol players, and light/sound trusses are extra. (Fortunately, Thailand has amazing local Dhol players and Bollywood DJs).
5. Additional Services & Support
You do not need to fly everyone in from India. Thailand has a robust local wedding industry.
Decor: Thai florists are world-class and often cheaper than flying teams from India. They work beautifully with tropical flowers.
Make-Up & Mehendi: Bangkok has excellent Indian bridal makeup artists and Mehendi artists who travel to resort towns.
Pandit/Priest: Local Indian temples in Bangkok can provide priests who travel to Hua Hin or Phuket for ceremonies.
6. Booking for 2027: Timelines
For a 2027 wedding, you are in a great position, but "auspicious dates" fill up fast.
Confirmation: To secure a prime resort in Hua Hin or Phuket for a weekend date, aim to confirm by mid-2026.
Payment:
Deposit: 25–30% upon signing.
Second Payment: 50% due 3–4 months prior.
Balance: 1 month prior.
Site Visits: We highly recommend a "recce" trip 9-12 months before the wedding to taste the food and see the venues in person.
